Although there are not a lot of archaeological Pictish remains, there is one site in Portmahomack. This site shows the remains of a Pictish monastery and is therefore extremely important for our knowledge about the Picts. Because of the monastery we know that the Picts were practicing the Christian faith and probably confessed their religion in the same manner as the Irish and the Anglo-Saxons. The excavations at Portmahomack took place between 1994 and 2007. Martin Carver directed the excavations and has written a book about Portmahomack. For further information about the archaeological remains of the Picts I highly recommend this publication.
